Does anyone believe in finishing school anymore? Apparently Vince Young, LenDale White, and Reggie Bush all think they are too good for school. Well, I guess they did prove their worth this year, but whatever happened to an education?
Vince Young proved his worth by almost single-handedly winning the Rose Bowl. Sure, he had a big game, he’s good, and he is definitely ready to go into the NFL; however, why not try for a repeat? Why not try and win the Heisman? You’d be the favorite next year. You’d get bonus points in next year’s Heisman race, because of your performance in the Rose Bowl. I think you still have a lot to gain, and then next year, you can go number 1 in the draft. This year it’s not going to happen.
Reggie Bush had a great season. He is a truly dynamic player who changes the way teams play defense just for him. Is he good enough to play pro? That’s a stupid question. Of course he is. He will be the number 1 pick in the draft; however, he didn’t have the greatest game in the National Championship. He went out a loser. Is that really how you want to leave college? I wouldn’t.
LenDale White had a tremendous Rose Bowl. Unfortunately, though, his inability to get 2 yards cost the Trojans the title. He is definitely a powerful running back, and may actually make a better running back in the NFL than Bush. Yeah, he’s ready, but he also went out a loser. Plus, now that Bush is leaving, he won’t have to play second to anyone. This would be a great opportunity for him to shine. I would think with both Bush and Young leaving, this would be a great opportunity for a 3rd different Trojan in the last 3 years to win the Heisman.
Am I surprised by any of these decisions? No. I just think next year would have been a little more exciting, if these players were still here. Anyone else wish they would stay?
