For some reason, I thought the Golden State Warriors were going to be a decent team this year. I don’t really have a solid reason for it. They were not good in years past. I just figured with the addition of Baron Davis, they would finally have the piece they needed to run their very good offense. Unfortunately, despite their offense, their defense is quite disgusting.
Baron Davis’s numbers lie. He is averaging 18.6 points a game. For a point guard, that average wouldn’t be bad. Most coaches would take that, especially when you mix in 9.3 assists; however, what that point total doesn’t tell you is that Davis is shooting under 39% on the season. He is trying to take his team on his shoulders and it just is not working. He needs to create more open shots for his teammates, which he is very good at. He should feed the ball to Jason Richardson more and shoot the shots that result from other teammates’ double teams.
In general, the Warriors need to get better looks at the basket. They are only shooting 43.5% on the year as a team. That is awful, and when you pair that with a defense that gives up over 100 points a game, it makes it difficult to win anything. It’s sometimes said the best defense is a made basket. That would definitely help the Warriors.
