The tide might finally be changing in Los Angeles. The Clippers have more talent than the Lakers, and because of this, they have more wins halfway through the season. They don’t have a great offense or a great defense, but they gel better than most teams in the league. The addition of Sam Cassell has been a huge bonus for the Clippers. He really does run that offense well.
For the first 3rd of the season, I had Elton Brand as my MVP of the League. This guy was unbelievable. He is still averaging 24.7 points, 10.6 boards, and shooting above 52% from the floor. For a big man, that is amazing. When you group him together with Corey Maggette’s 21.7 points and Sam Cassell’s 17.6, you get a very powerful offense. Unfortunately the starters are forced to do all of the scoring. The Clippers have no spark off the bench. If they want to take their team to the next level, they are going to have to either draft or trade for a good bench player.
On defense, the Clippers have the 2nd best field goal percentage behind the Spurs. It doesn’t look all that impressive, but it definitely gets the job done. Like I said earlier, they need more offense off the bench. The defense will keep them in most ball games.
