Whenever the Seattle SuperSonics play, you know there are going to be a lot of points up at the end of the game. They remind me a little of the Dallas Mavericks a few years ago, when they would put up hundreds and hundreds of points a game, but couldn’t seem to win any of them. As fun as offense can be, at some point, your defense will need to stop someone.
At 102.2 points a game, they are the 2nd highest scoring offense (behind Phoenix). They run the floor better than most teams. They shoot the ball decently. They have two great scorers (Allen and Lewis), and in my opinion have the best shooter still in the game in Ray Allen. For some reason, they don’t get many assists a game. Still, watching their offense can be very exciting at times.
Watching their defense, however, can be quite frustrating. They have the worst defense in the league. They are giving up 106.5 points a game; almost 4 full points higher than any other team. They are allowing opponents to shoot nearly 50% from the floor, and close to 40% from the 3-point line. That just won’t keep you in games, no matter how good your offense is. If they want to win games, they need to focus on stopping someone, anyone.
