And These Are Professionals?

I’ve never been a huge NBA fan. I rarely watch the game on television. I’ve been to a handful of games in my life, including a 2001 playoff game where Allen Iverson dropped 51 on the Toronto Raptors. But the absolute slop that has come out of the league the last year has really just made me say enough is enough. I’m done. I’m out. I really, truly do not care one little bit anymore.

I do like the game of basketball. The college game is generally a fun product. The first weekend of March Madness is one of the best four-day periods for sports on television you can find every year. I’ve been to Big Five doubleheaders at the Palestra on the University of Pennsylvania’s campus. I watched some great UMass teams with the likes of Marcus Camby have wars with my alma mater, Temple University, who had players like Aaron McKie and Eddie Jones on their side. Great, fun entertainment.

The NBA is garbage. Ron Artest and Jermaine O’Neal storming the stands last season. The Kobe Bryant rape trial. Artest’s drama with Indiana that led to his trade to the Sacramento Kings. Philadelphia 76er reserve Lee Nailon’s arrest for domestic abuse before a game this past week. I think only the United States Congress has had more transgressions from such a small body of “professionals”.

So I’m done. I can tolerate Dicky V’s diaper dandy comments a hell of a lot better than watching a load of miscreants play a selfish form of a good team sport.
