The Next Gretzky

Sidney Crosby

We’re a little over a third of the way through the season. Let’s see if our man Sidney is living up to all the hype.
Games played 31:
Goals: 13 - Okay, so it’s not remarkable, but I ‘d say it’s decent. Clearly he is not on pace for Gretzky’s 51 goals he put up his first year.
Assists: 18 - Again, not bad, but not really impressive either. Gretzky managed to put 86 in his first season. He’s not going to touch that.
+/-: -11 - Yikes! This is not good. This means when you’re on the ice Sid, you’re being outscored. You still have plenty of time to catch up though. Gretzky was an even hockey player his first year in the NHL, and I know, this isn’t all your fault.

As you can see, he clearly does not compare statistically to “The Great One” through the first third of the season; however, this kid is for real. What’s holding you back? It’s Super Mario. If he wasn’t on your team, you’d probably have 25 goals by now, but since you are sharing the spotlight, it’s tougher.

Sid’s here to stay, and he’s young, although so was Gretzky when he came into the league. I’m not counting Sid the Kid out though, he can skate like few I’ve seen.
